Meet Dr. Erik Higginbottom
Erik Higginbottom, DDS
I believe that exceptional orthodontic care has the amazing ability to change lives. As your orthodontist, I look forward to giving you the life-changing experience you deserve and the beautiful smile you’ve always wanted.
Having grown up right here in Easton, I feel that being an orthodontist is a great way to give back to a community that has given me so much over the years. I feel honored whenever I have the opportunity to change the life of a patient through orthodontic care, and I look forward to keeping Easton smiling for many years to come.
Education and Continuing Education
After graduating from Easton High School, I attended Western Maryland College (now McDaniel College), where I received a Bachelor of Arts in biology and graduated magna cum laude with Phi Beta Kappa honors. I went on to attend the University of Maryland Dental School, where I earned my Doctorate of Dental Surgery, graduated summa cum laude, and ranked number one in my class.
After finishing dental school, I chose to continue my pursuit of becoming an orthodontist. I attended the University of Maryland and received my certificate in orthodontics as well as a master’s degree in oral biology. During my orthodontic residency, I was trained in the orthodontic treatment of children, teenagers, and adults with conventional braces, Damon Smile®, and Invisalign®. In addition, I served on the Cleft Lip and Palate Teams at Johns Hopkins University and Kernan Hospital.
I believe in the benefits of continuing education as a way to stay up to date with current orthodontic products and treatment techniques in order to provide the best experience for our patients. I enjoy going to various courses around the country and listening to world-renowned lecturers discuss the most up-to-date treatment philosophies through my professional affiliations:
- American Association of Orthodontists
- Middle Atlantic Society of Orthodontists
- Maryland State Society of Orthodontists
- American Dental Association
Smiling is a big part of my life!
When I’m away from the practice, I enjoy spending time with my family. My wife Melissa and I met in high school and were married in 2003. Melissa is a pediatric hygienist and she really enjoys her job working with children. We have two sons, Grant and Chad, and a golden retriever, Summer.
In addition to spending time with family, I love being outdoors and on the water, watching sports, cheering on my favorite teams, and playing golf! There isn’t a sport that I don’t enjoy! My favorite teams are the Washington Commanders, Baltimore Ravens, and Baltimore Orioles!
One of the goals of our practice is to support our local community. I am involved in coaching soccer for Shore FC, serve on the Financial Committee for the University of Maryland Medical System as well as volunteer my time at community events.
